Home Builder SEO
SEO stands for search engine optimization. Its building your website to perform better for searches relevant to the content you have on your website. It starts at the website. Your website is the foundation of your Internet marketing program. I recently ran across a website where a home builder was being charged for monthly SEO. The website was built and launched live on the Internet for marketing. Many simple things like description meta tags and alt tags had not been used. Many of the pages had the same exact title tags and often did not relate to the content on the page
- If you build in multiple states, don’t list a state in the title tag on a page for a community in a completely different state.
- In the title tag, don’t list every city you build in on a page displaying 1 listing in 1 community located in 1 city.
- Make sure meta tag descriptions are either dynamic (pulled from a database) or manually entered different on every page. Describing 10-15 pages of your website the exact same way does not benefit your website’s placement in the search engines.
- Make sure if you have multiple domains, they redirect to your 1 domain of your main site and do not cause the site to be a complete duplication of your main website. Learn the different between parking a domain verses redirecting a domain.
There is a lot more to SEO than the few simple tips above. You can learn from reading articles and tutorials on the web and you can learn how to do some things for free online. However, you as a builder or sales person or marketing manager give up your time and resources and in some cases do things that are counter-productive to your goals for marketing your homes and communities on the Internet. Consider getting help. Hire a consultant that knows what they are doing and has experience getting sites listed on the web for your relevant content.
Good primer on home builder SEO. Some really good points in here. Thanks for sharing.
